I have a few thoughts I would like to share with you all.
I am a strong believer in freedom of speech, even if the cost is high.
We live in time when democracy allows us almost everywhere around the world, to say what we think, no matter what our views are. In that sense these are good times, and I hope that freedom of speech will also reach the countries and states where dictatorship doesn't allow the full benefits of freedom, like the freedom of speech.
As much as I value freedom of speech, it has ramifications.
We need to be responsible for what we say. If censorship means others are responsible for what we say or don't (In terms of deciding for us), than freedom of speech means we are responsble, and here comes moral and ethics into the picture.
My idea of moral and ethics is that we can say what we want, as long as it's true.
I mean, if freedom of speech allows you to lie with no responsibility, I rather be censored to the simple truth. Wouldn't you agree?
For example, I'm a Jew. I see anti-Semitics even here, on DA, doing their thing, and you know what - so what? Even they have freedom of speech. They can say they don't like Jews, they hate Israel, and despise me. So what?
But, at the point they start making up lies, like deny the holocaust ever happened, and influence young DA members into thinking it's true, and the holocaust is a big Jewish conspiracy, I feel that this is bad moral and ethics to keep it going on.
A good friend of mine, here on DA, has brought this issue to my attention, and it is a very important matter.
To support my friend I am adding a link. Please read this journal --> [link]
I hope you will also find it important, and give your support.
If you have any thoughts of the matter, please feel free to share. After all... freedom of speech
UPDATE:
The link I used is no longer active since the user that wrote the journal there was banned. He was banned with no offcial reason. I guess it's because his words, and all of your massive support, was getting to be to much for the admins.
So, thank you for the massive support to the concept, and the healthy discussion on my journal.
And now, straight and to the point, lets see some works, that not enough people have seen.
I invite you to take a look with me, at 10 of my favorites Under my weekly spotlight.

I dont understand guys who hate Jews, or Israel.
What can be logical reason,
we live in the same world, and we are human beings whom equally.
Well, I am Muslim and live in Turkey, but I don't hate Israel or jews or someone else,

I love it
But I dont agree with this:
My idea of moral and ethics is that we can say what we want, as long as it's true.
Because what is true? Truth is a very vage term: everything we see and know is a perception of the person. Our truth is poluted by the subject (ourselves) and other external factors (like the media, friends and parents).
I like this kind of texts, they make people think. And there aren't much people who really think. A lot of peoples thoughts are poluted by emotions like hate and greed and distorted by money-driven media. Their meanings and feelings are formed by the enviroment and not by themselves.
I also often sneak up on myself when I consider my thoughts.

"My idea of moral and ethics is that we can say what we want, as long as it's true.

Well... I should ask you "but what is truth? Is truth unchanging law? We both have truth are mine the same as yours?" (quoting Pilate from Jesus Christ Superstar...)
The matter is that I'm afraid there's no truth... we have all different points of view, different stories behind us. And I don't believe that someone could tell me that what I think is false. So how can I do it with the others? This is a really big problem...
Because, you see... I am an ideologist, but how can I make my values effective if I can't say that the others are sometimes and somehow wrong? So I should accept that my "creed", my "faith" (I'm not speaking only of religion... I mean in a wider sense) is valid only for me. Or I can try to teach, to show my point of view, my story, and hope that this could do.
I don't have the solution to this problem but... as you speak of freedom
Really nice favs, anyway!
