Take for example the wonderful work of Keith Haring
that was able to use his art (drawing and scalptures) to explore it as a language, a sign language.
What do I mean language?
One you can look at, and find yourself analyzing it in your own set of conceptions.
If you're American, British, Brazilian, or anywhere else on our planet. Every calture, any age. We can all see this abstract animated figures and attach feelings, explantions, scenes and identify. Not all of us see it the same way, but we can all understand it.
Isn't that waht art is suppose to do?
make us think, chalange us to ask ourselves how do we feel about what we see? Translate our vision to feelings.
Every little thing can be expressive.
But, do we all try to express something with our work?
When you see a picture of a red flower sparklling in the morning sun, is this expressive?
It is mostly beautiful to look at, but it can also be very expressive. It's a matter of presentation and the artist approach to taking the picture.
Making us see the scene like a dream, transfering the "early morning" feeling, can make us appreciate this beauty that is all around us and we don't take the time to look at it.
That's expression!
If a picture can make us look differently at the world, isn't it expressive?
It's all a matter of what we are trying to show.
Of our intentions while taking the pgotograph.
I don't care what kind of a camera you have, If you thought we all want to see your dog, or your dinner.
Put some creative effort into your work.
Think
Feel
Express
I don't care about technique, only intentions and resault.
If you wanted to show the connection between a father and a son, how do you do that?
Is taking a picture of an old man and a younger one good? Is it creative? will it chalange people to think? to feel?
Mybe...
But if you use symbols (like Haring does) and chalnge the viewer to understand, and feel - you made art.
Don't get me wrong, It still can be bad art, but It's art, and a very good start.
What do you think?
Yours, G

Support the incredible undiscovereds
And yet I try not to say these sorts of things... Because many of my friends on dA already believe they are 'inferior' because their work has no 'meaning'... I would not want them to feel worse by enforcing my view that expression is 90% of a picture and skill, beauty and conditions make up the remaining 10%. I appreciate their works, meaning or no meaning, but I do know where you're coming from.
"No meaning" shots can be very cool, only I don't consider them as art.
I'm not saying all my photographs are art, No way.
I have lots I shoot just for fun and beauty.
The question is where the line is drawen between a good photograph, and art.

I _really_ need a better signature
If you upload a picture of your door blurry, and out of focous it wiil be on DA.
Mybe even some will consider it art, I'm just saying what I think.
Art can be anyting to everyone, and it's not up to me to decide, only to state my views on it.
I did consider making films, and I even did some, but I'm very happy taking stills. It's a bigger challange for me
Thank you!

Great discussion!
if they take it at a slightly different angle, and they applied a 'Solarizing' filter to it, maybe an argument could be made; i guess then at least it would be mediocre to bad art at least.
i totally agree with *gilad on this, and i'm really sick of people ABUSING the generosity this site offers by treating it like a blog and uploading every little peice of crap that falls out of their undies. art is all in the emotion that a picture creates, and that emotion is formed when you can see the finished picture before it's taken (or drawn, mad respect to the wielders of the pencil and pen!!!)
i'm certainly not the best photographer, but i'm trying, and this site really has helped me improve as my gallery will attest. so spread the word, get people to respect DA for what it really is.

Is it the creation or the reception that makes it art?
Thanks again
