A Light unto the Nations

Sun Apr 22, 2007, 1:21 AM

Gilad's Journal

I want to tell you of a project I'm taking a part in - A Light unto the Nations. It's an exhibition that tries to show an artistic point of view that allows the mind to desire peace and hope. Muslim and Jewish photographers build a statement and a bridge to give us a pictorial record by which we can further our understanding. I have a few photographs and texts to be shown there. Full size images are always great :)
There are also other photographers taking part at this project, and some of them you might know from DA, and they are: Tamara ABDUL HADI, Aasil AHMAD, Anthony ASAEL, Kitra CAHANA, Lamya GARGASH, Steve SIMON, Sawsan YASSINE

The project is a part of "CONTACT", an annual month long festival of photography with over 500 local, national and international artists at more than 200 venues across the Greater Toronto Area in May
MAY 10 - 20
OPENING MAY 10, 6 - 10PM
12 Ossington Ave, Toronto M6J 2Y7 - Toronto, Canada [link]

Now, I invite you to take a look with me, at 10 of my favorites Under my weekly spotlight

Gilad's Journal

This one is about atmosphere, about our own thoughts when we see such an image. I think of a cold night, someone trying to find his way home.

Great colours and technique to capture a shot like that.
The lonely and shattered house is effective with that moving sky behind.

Strong expression.
The papers look very good like that, thrown in the air all over the naked room.

I don't like featuring nude photos, and I don't usually do that, but this is different. The nudity is almost overlooked :)

Beautiful use of the silhouette to bring the expression to the viewer.
I love the colors and the natural frame.

And speaking about the project "A Light unto the Nations" this one reminds me the theme. A smiling kid, using "guns" with a smile. Harmless. I wish that would be the guns, the only guns, my kid will ever have to use.

One of the best I've seen in a long while.

Everything to give this one a loud Bravo!

Intresting. Not as simple as it first appears to be.
I love this one. It makes you think and imagine.

It's amazing to see how much beauty and quality is passed un-noticed here in all one week. I hope that more great work will get noticed here. It's up to us. Use the comments favorites power to support the un-noticed.

Keep supporting!

Good luck in the exhibition. :)

The magic of photography is metaphysical. What you see in the photograph isn't what you saw at the time. The real skill of photography is organised visual lying. :firelite-photo:

I'm not an artist or photographer myself. I'm your average woman with an appreciation for art that is moving and has depth. I just looked through your entire gallery, and was moved by your gift. How amazing that you bring such beauty to even the dark.
