Artist's CommentsStanding in the shadow of belief Hiding under the wings of old age Young believers, glowing in the sun of god When they grow older they will remember that time The time they felt his presence for the first time That time will change their life for all eternity **** Take a look at the B&W version --> [link] I feel there is a huge difference between the two, but each is important in each own way. I would love to know your opinion. Taken during "Birkat Hachama" (Blessing of the sun) in Bnei Brak, Israel. "Birkat Hachama" is a very special prayer taken once every 28 years, when the sun is exactly in the same position it was when the universe was born. It is believed that this is the date the Massiach will come on that date. This year (2009) it also happened on Passover and it's only the third time in History it happens (passover night with the location of the sun). It was a very special event. This picture is taken on a terrace, where the women and small children saw the event. It is forbidden for them to be with the men at the prayer. The one on flickr is nowhere near as good as this one on deviantart
the lighting on the faces of of the children here is perfect -- on the other photo -- everything is too blended and blah. While the content is good, the other photo does not deliver. This shot above is awesome in its editing.
there is just enough color to bring one into the reality of these two small children, and enough faded to make one feel as though they are seeing a vision or a dream moment.
the streams of light are both heavenly and eerie -- the two young children are the only ones facing the viewer. all the rest are anonymous adults waiting to be raptured by God or aliens -- we aren't sure which.
The older child looks curious and intelligent, her beautiful broad forehead and white face contrast with her neatly pulled back hair in hairband. Her clenched hands suggest reserve and uncertainty, but her eyes show interest and focus in the person photographing the moment. She is not sure what the person with the camera is doing. The younger child behind her is just there, no thoughts can be discerned from her tiny presence.
There is mystery and clarity in this photo. It is a moment of eternal change -- but exactly what change is uncertain. All are clothed in somber colors -- is it a funeral, a wake, a church service? One cannot tell.
the black and white is exquisite, the contrast is perfect and its as powerful as ever
i do like the color version more because the colors are so vibrate yet dull. i can feel this loveliness and feelings of being forgotten but at the same time the two girls together almost give me a sense of hope and wonder, the looks on their faces the way the smaller one is standing slightly behind being protected almost, i like her eyes.
anyhow the quality and in general vibe of this photo reminds me of all the forgotten beauty in this world. its wonderful!
