I will run away from noting
Unless of course, I'm being chased...
One of my favourite motives. The classic shadow and light technique.
I always shoot shadow shots about two hours to sunset, when the light is still strong, but the angle of the sun creates a very long shadow.
I love the film noir atmosphere in this one.
It was taken from a tall building in middle Tel-Aviv.
I focsed on the crossing, that reflected the sun, and was the grighest thing on the street.
The light metering allowed me to emphesize the contrast of light and dark contrast.
The girl was running through the crossing, so I used the highest shutter speed to freeze her running, and get this under-exposed frame.
I was very lucky to get this perfect timing.

You may see it differntly once you realize more than the obvies.
There are many attempts at imitating noir style in my gallery, none as striking, simple and successful as this. I'm sure my new camera will soon have me dressing my friends in fedoras and posing them around the city at night.
this one might be worth making an effort to erase all those extra un-needed shadows out of the frame. If it was simply the horizontal shapes and the lady and shadow it would make quite a convincing optical illusion of a girl running up stares to heaven... nice series, very nice
Hahah yea, well frozen man, very lucky to get the shot the way it is, leg in almost perfect running frame. The under-exposure does give the shot a strange film nior feel to it, also the angle and non linear lines of the crossing combind with this darkness give the shot a feeling of un-rest. A scared woman running away from what the discription describes of "nothing". The other shaddow figure in the top right of frame adds another level; it almost feels to me that she is the silent watcher in this little game....on closer inspection she is holding an object in her outer hand. A setting for a chilling narative, a silent power to this one. Flash
I'd interpret it as if she was running away from her own shadow but it's amazing, how it looks like a surreal painting, like the ones by Eshner(?), because the lines are so askew, it looks as if her shadow is running up stairs that are on the other side of the 'stairs' the girl is running on. Wow.
